Editor returns to reporting as part of city news site’s expansion

Victoria MunroAn editor is leaving her role to return to reporting as part of an independent publisher’s recent expansion.

Victoria Munro has announced her departure from the Waltham Forest Echo, which she has edited since 2021, to become a reporter at the Sheffield Tribune.

Victoria’s move comes after the Tribune and its sister titles the Manchester Mill and Liverpool Post announced expansion plans last month, with the Sheffield site subsequently revealing it has now broken even after less than two years in business.

As part of the expansion, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Abi Whistance has already been unveiled as a new recruit at the Liverpool Post.

Like the Tribune, the Waltham Forest Echo is run by an independent publisher in the form of London-based Social Spider.

Victoria, pictured, told HTFP: “Editing the Waltham Forest Echo has been by far the best job I’ve had in journalism, in a period when good local journalism jobs are becoming increasingly scarce, and I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved there.

“I’ve had the opportunity to investigate hundreds of low-income households being forced out of London, speak to some truly fascinating people and cover stories that other publications would have had little interest in.

“I wish everyone at Social Spider the best of luck as they continue to grow the Echo and its sister papers – Enfield Dispatch and Haringey Community Press – and I will really miss working with them.”

Victoria’s current role is now being advertised and can be viewed on HTFP here.
