Journalist quits regional daily to join independent publisher’s expansion

Abi WhistanceA journalist has left a regional daily to be part of an independent city news website’s expansion plans.

Abi Whistance has announced her departure from the Yorkshire Evening Post to join the Liverpool Post.

Abi, pictured, has worked for the YEP since July 2021 and specialised in property and lifestyle writing.

She joins the Post after the title and its Manchester Mill and Sheffield Tribune sister sites announced an expansion last month that has since created two new jobs.

Abi told HTFP: “In a relatively short amount of time the Post, the Mill and the Tribune have built a fantastic community of subscribers that are paying for journalism that invests in local people.

“From the Post’s brilliant interview with [former Mayor of Liverpool] Joe Anderson to its work detangling the Suites Hotel riot, it’s clear that readers want to engage with the kind of reporting that spends time unpicking complex local issues.

“I can’t wait to see how all three websites grow in the coming years, and I’m looking forward to being part of the amazing work the Post is producing for Liverpool.”
