Regional daily relaunches after dropping ‘evening’ from name

A regional daily which dropped the word ‘evening’ from its name has relaunched under its new title.

The Lancashire Post, formerly the Lancashire Evening Post, came out for the first time on Saturday, with a new masthead featuring the county’s traditional red rose emblem.

The relaunch also features a new-look Saturday sports section and a supplement called ‘Retro’, which features ‘living memory’ nostalgia.

Today’s edition debuts a new health and lifestyle supplement called ‘Your Life’, put together by the Post’s award-winning lifestyle editor Aasma Day.

In an editorial for Saturday’s newspaper, editor Gillian Parkinson wrote: “From today, the Lancashire Evening Post will be the Lancashire Post – a new name for a newspaper which will incorporate all your favourite features as well as a host of new ones.

“We are hugely proud of Lancashire and its people, so we have put the red rose firmly on the front of the new-look paper – and we have dropped the word ‘evening’ to reflect the fact that we are available earlier in the day.”

The Preston-based paper’s relaunch will also see eight pages of business news will feature in Tuesday editions, along with a ‘People’ supplement dedicated to celebrations, new babies, groups, societies and nights out.

A second ‘Retro’ supplemenet will appear on Wednesdays, focused on “Lancashire of old”, while a what’s on guide will feature on Thursdays.

Gillian added: “On Friday, Property and Sport take precedence. We have Lancashire’s best-read property guide, with homes for sale as well as looking through the keyholes at some of the county’s most desirable properties.

“The Gentry is an eight-page preview of Preston North End’s weekend game, giving you all the information you need about team fitness, player profiles and the opposition.

“And if you are still looking for something to do at the weekend, we’ve got more ideas in the mini-Guide. I hope you will enjoy the new-look Lancashire Post and I’d love to hear your feedback about some of the new sections.”

My word, is that the best they could do for a relaunched title’s splash? Looks like one of those green screen photos you used to get at Alton Towers in the 80s.
