A senior editor at a regional publisher has taken on a new role running its hyperlocal news service.

Ed Walker, pictured, has been promoted by Reach plc to become editor-in-chief for In Your Area and Reach Regionals Network Newsroom.

Ed has served in a number of senior editorial roles with Reach, including digital editor and head of digital publishing for its regional titles.

In Your Area was launched in 2017 by Reach’s predecessor Trinity Mirror. It allows users to type in their postcode and receive the most relevant news and information for their area from a variety of sources.

The site also offers hyperlocal traffic and travel updates, weather, things to do, property prices, planning applications, public notices, crime statistics, police updates, retail news, food hygiene ratings and more.

Announcing his new role on Twitter, Ed said: “Very proud to become editor-in-chief for In Your Area and Reach Regionals Network Newsroom working across our titles in the UK.

“Big plans for 2020 and pleased to be charged with helping to lead them and working with our teams across our Live network.”

Speaking to HTFP, Ed added: “I’m very pleased to be taking on this role and working to rapidly grow and expand In Your Area during 2020 and beyond to see it realise its full, exciting potential.”
