A former regional daily editor is set to co-write a book detailing a “behind the scenes” account of US president Donald Trump’s business dealings.
The Scotsman has revealed that Damian Bates, who edited Aberdeen’s Press & Journal between 2013 and 2017, is working on the book with George Sorial, executive vice president and chief compliance counsel for the Trump Organisation.
Mr Sorial was tasked with managing the Trump Organisation’s potential conflicts of interest during Donald Trump’s presidency, and the book promises “behind the scenes stories of Trump’s leadership, problem solving, and success”.
Entitled ‘The Real Deal: My Decade Fighting Battles and Winning Wars with Trump’, it pledges to give readers an insight into the “life lessons” accrued “from a decade with a man of the people”.
According to The Scotsman, a source familiar with the book said the co-authors have interviewed President Trump in person on several occasions for the book.
Since leaving the Press & Journal, Damian has founded strategic communications consultancy Abraitis & Co, and also serves as chair of Fifth Ring, a PR and marketing agency in which DC Thomson, publishers of the Press & Journal, has a majority stake.
The book will be published in June by Broadside Books.
Given that Bates is also married to Trump’s representative in Scotland, Sarah Malone, it’s hard to imagine this is going to be in any way objective or balanced.
