Regional publisher closes countywide magazine after 20 years

A regional publisher is set to close a county-wide monthly magazine after 20 years in print.

Cornwall Today has announced Trinity Mirror’s decision to cease publication of what its editor called its “beautiful magazine”.

TM has not yet confirmed how many jobs are at risk as a result of the move, but HTFP understands at least one person will be made redundant.

The magazine’s June issue, a “bumper” edition celebrating the title, will be its last.

A message from editor Kirstie Newton, posted on Cornwall Today’s official Facebook page, states: “We are sad to confirm that Trinity Mirror has decided to cease publication of Cornwall Today.

“We are currently working on the June issue, which will be the last; it promises to be a bumper edition full of features celebrating both Cornwall and the 20-year history of our beautiful magazine.

“We’re immensely proud of the work we’ve done in that time, and while sad, it is lovely to read how much it has meant to you, our readers. Please keep the comments coming as they lift our spirits.

“We hope very much that this might not be the end of our beloved product; watch this space for further updates.”

HTFP has approached Trinity Mirror for a comment.
