A group editor with responsibility for 11 titles is leaving the regional press for a “new challenge”.
Susan Windram, who has edited the Selkirk-based Southern Reporter for 10 years, will take up her new writer and sub-editor role at the lifestyle magazine Scottish Field at the beginning of April.
Her position as group editor of Johnston Press subsidiary North East Press’s northern weekly titles means she currently also holds overall responsiblity for 10 other titles.
They are the Selkirk Weekend Advertiser, Hawick News, Berwick Advertiser, Berwickshire News, Galloway Gazette, Carrick Gazette, Northumberland Gazette, Morpeth Herald, the News Post Leader and the News Guardian.
Susan, 51, has spent her entire journalistic career with Johnston Press and its predecessor companies.
It is understood her role was not under threat from redundancy.
She told HTFP: “I have enjoyed my time as editor of The Southern Reporter and as group editor for North East Press’s weekly titles.
“It has been a privilege for me to lead such dedicated and talented staff in the Borders, Galloway and north Northumberland.
“However, after 10 years, I felt the time was right for a new challenge and I am delighted to be joining Richard Bath and his team at Scottish Field at such an exciting time.”
Susan is also set to be joined as a new recruit at the Edinburgh-based magazine by Kirsty Smyth, senior reporter at The Berwickshire News and The Berwick Advertiser, who will take up a staff writing role.
Susan joined the Southern Reporter in 2005 from The Scotsman, having begun her career as a trainee reporter on the Herald & Post in Edinburgh.
She eventually became editor of the free weekly, before moving to the Edinburgh Evening News to work as a sub-editor.
Good luck Susan. A fine editor and a real loss to the Southern Reporter and JP in general

Group Ed for so many titles sounds impossible job. Best of luck it what appears a more amenable role.
