Community website asks readers for money

Readers are being asked to donate £15,000 to maintain the future of a magazine, website and online TV channel in York.

One&Other which started off eight months ago as an online news and culture platform has launched the 50-day campaign in an attempt to bolster their journalistic team, find a more permanent open newsroom, and continue to invest in high-quality reporting, design, and stock

People who pledge can receive exclusive gifts such as previews of all future issues a week before their public release, single-run One&Other merchandise, or even joining the editorial board.

As well as this businesses are being offered a unique package of advertising space for a year with marketing strategy and planning support from founder and experienced marketer Stuart Goulden.

Said Stuart: “One&Other was born with the local community at its heart and we love being an independent non-profit and an ambitious one at that.

“This move, admittedly unusual for the industry, will hopefully allow our readers to have a vested interest in our continued growth at this most important time.

“Although other funding routes remain open to us, this is a great opportunity to extend the close relationship we already enjoy with the people of York.”

One&Other began as a single online platform, and now boasts an online TV channel and monthly magazine.

It was also a finalist at the 2012 Newspaper Awards for Digital Innovation of the Year.

The crowdfunding campaign is to be promoted in June’s issue of One&Other York magazine and can be found at http://www.indiegogo.com/oneandotheryork.
