News site to launch TV channel and magazine

A news website in York is to launch an online TV channel to coincide with its magazine launch next month.

Magazine style website One&Other which went live in September last year is now launching One&OtherTV to coincide with the launch of One&Other magazine which will be a free, self-selecting news and culture magazine, with an initial print run of 15,000 copies each month.

The magazine is an open collaboration between the site’s 75-strong network of contributors around a single theme.

The online TV channel will see the company collaborate with film company Parashoots which was set up by Mark Herman, acclaimed director and screenwriter of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas and Brassed Off.

Stuart Goulden, founder and managing Director of One&Other, said: “First online, and now in print and TV, piece-by-piece we are conceiving a local media brand and model fit for the 21st century – one that views the industry challenges as possibilities and simultaneously entertains, inspires, and empowers communities for good.

“Whilst other cities are busy debating how local TV can work in theory, we’re releasing our concept into the market first and exposing our inquisitive readership to some incredibly original content.”

He added that all three platforms will look to fully embrace the opportunities presented by multimedia storytelling, working to a more progressive and participatory news agenda.

Paul Richardson, Creative Director of Parashoots, said: “The vision for One&Other TV is to create a platform for video content that reflects a general resurgence is localism while, as befitting the O&O brand, aiming to be more imaginative in what we present and how we present it.

“Our aim at Parashoots is to produce fresh and imaginative films that are seen and enjoyed, and One&Other TV is an exciting opportunity to reach new audiences.”

The website was nominated for digital innovation at the 2012 Newspaper Awards.
