Independent title launches app to help fund local journalists

Daniel Ionescu 2023A new service that aims to help support local journalists financially has been launched by an independent publisher.

Lincoln-based Stonebow Media, which published the Lincolnite, has launched MyLocal web and app platform to serve as the new online home of its content.

The app allows readers to sign up for memberships in order to “support independent MyLocal and The Lincolnite journalists and content partners”, with a free three-month trial currently being offered.

It is now hoped other independent publishers will sign up to become part of MyLocal as a result.

Lincolnite founding editor Daniel Ionescu, pictured, said: “MyLocal is the next generation independent media platform, connecting local communities with the information that matters, starting from Lincolnshire, with The Lincolnite.

“The Lincolnite and MyLocal are piloting innovative systems that no local publisher attempted to integrate before.

“We are excited about the future opportunities this brings and are actively seeking collaborators and investors country-wide.”

Speaking to HTFP, he added: “We believe that memberships are the key to sustaining independent news reporting in Lincolnshire and beyond.

“Our new MyLocal platform not only delivers trusted news directly from The Lincolnite, but also from our trusted sources such as the police, councils, and national news providers.

“With our team of reporters based in our Lincoln office, we can focus on roaming Lincolnshire and uncovering original, impactful stories that truly resonate with the people in our communities.

“Our aim is to serve our audience with informative and useful content, offering a blend of members-only and free-access stories across both the app and website.

“By embracing memberships, we can continue to support and strengthen the future of local journalism in our region. We also have a very generous three-month free trial for our readers to experience the service we will deliver.”
