Former business editor opens up on mental health fight amid PR success

Lucy Roue 2023A former regional business editor has reflected on her mental health battle after announcing fresh success for the company she launched.

Lucy Roue, who ran the business desk at the Manchester Evening News from 2017 to 2019, has opened up on the struggle she faced before launching Time and Tide Content last year.

It comes after the firm was named as the official content partner for events organised by business group pro-manchester in 2023, while also taking on jjigsaw.com, which offers training in emotional intelligence to businesses, as a new client.

In an announcement about the new clients, Time and Tide said Lucy had started the business “after struggling with her mental health for many years and the grind of working 9-5 with undiagnosed ADHD and bipolar disorder”.

She said: “It’s been a hectic few months getting Time and Tide Content set-up, managing my mental health to avoid burnout, and learning how to actually run a business – but I’m really pleased with the progress we’ve made.

“My team of freelancers and photographers have done a fantastic job and I’m lucky enough to have some great advocates out in the Manchester business community.

“I love a good news story and we have double the reason to celebrate right now. Events coverage is something I always enjoyed during my time as a business journalist so to sign-up pro-Manchester, as their official events coverage partner, is a dream win.

“They have a great spread of events throughout the year, many of which I used to cover as a journo so I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with Trailblazing Tech next in June.”

Lucy began her career as a trainee reporter on Newcastle daily the Chronicle, before becoming a senior reporter on Stoke-on-Trent daily The Sentinel and then the Liverpool echo.

In 2014, she became deputy business editor at the MEN and was promoted three years later. From 2019 until her departure from Reach the following year, she was a regional commercial editor for the publisher.
