Colleagues of former regional editor to hold memorial reunion

Mike ColtonJournalists who worked with a former editor are being invited to a reunion to be held in his memory.

The reunion will honour Mike Colton, who edited the Peterborough Standard for 13 years and later served as the Peterborough Evening Telegraph’s features editor in the 1980s and 1990s.

Mike, pictured, died in February 2021 aged 89 after contracting coronavirus, meaning many former colleagues were unable to attend his funeral.

The reunion will be held in Peterborough on Friday 20 October.

Rosemarie Whittaker, one of the organisers, told HTFP: “Mike died two years ago during a lockdown when funerals and social gatherings were severely restricted.

“Many journalists whose careers were shaped by his editorship and guidance were deprived of the chance to attend his funeral.

“Mike Colton was a very talented journalist and a great friend and mentor to many journalists in the heyday of newspapers in Peterborough.

“We want to get together to raise a glass to his memory, as well as catch up with old friends.”
