Weekly reveals plan for online paywall ‘experiment’

A weekly newspaper has announced plans to launch an experimental online paywall.

The Cambrian News says it is “considering experimenting in the future with some form of paid-for content” on its website.

The Aberystwyth-based weekly is now seeking expressions of reader interest over such a move.

The News says it will offer “free credits” to interested parties who sign up via an online form.

In an announcement published at the bottom of its online stories, the News said: “As we continue to protect and grow quality local journalism, Cambrian News is considering experimenting in the future with some form of paid-for content on our website.

“If you’d like to help shape how that may look and secure some free credits if we do go live then please register.”

HTFP has approached the paper’s publisher Tindle Newspapers for more information about how the proposed paywall will work, but they have yet to respond.
