Publisher returns daily district office to city centre

A regional publisher has opened a new city centre base to serve as a daily’s district office and house a news website’s staff.

National World has moved into a new headquarters in Glasgow, which will be available to journalists working on both The Scotsman and Glasgow World.

The Edinburgh-based Scotsman’s previous Glasgow office was based in Cessnock, around two miles away from the new space at Wizu Workspace, pictured, in West Regent Street.

The paper’s transport correspondent Alastair Dalton welcomed the move in a series of posts on Twitter.

He wrote: “We’re back. 150 years after opening our first Glasgow office in 1872, The Scotsman has returned to the city centre.

“With our Edinburgh office now also back in the heart of the capital, it should soon be possible to travel between them within an hour for the first time since 1999.”

The move comes after The Scotsman, Edinburgh Evening News and Scotland on Sunday moved to a new headquarters in George Street, Edinburgh, earlier this year.

A National World spokeswoman told HTFP: “We are delighted to have been able to secure city centre premises for our Scotsman staff in Glasgow, returning to our 1872 roots.

“This follows our return to Edinburgh city centre earlier in the year.

“Both of our new office spaces provide the ability for staff across our various teams to work in a much more modern and flexible way suited to post-pandemic working.”
