Football ticket ‘scammer’ exposed by regional journalist

Jacob Farr 2022A regional journalist has exposed an alleged scammer who tried to con him out of a hundred pounds for football tickets.

Jacob Farr has warned fellow supports of Glasgow club Rangers after being approached by the scam artist on Twitter.

Jacob, who works for Edinburgh Live, was sent a message out of the blue by the anonymous account, called ‘Gazza’, offering him a pair of tickets to Rangers’ match against Serbian club Crvena Zvzeda for £100.

However, the approach prompted Jacob and his friend Graham to investigate the account and dsicvoered ‘Gazza’ had also been targeting fans of the club, who had taken to social media to warn other supporters it was a “total scam”.

Jacob, pictured, has now passed on the warning himself in a first-person piece for Edinburgh Live.

He wrote: “After discovering this, I informed the ‘seller’ that I was a journalist for Edinburgh Live and wondered if they would wish to comment on the accusations of being a scam artist.

“They did not respond and then blocked me.

“Police Scotland were contacted but they said that a crime had only been committed if I had sent money to the suspected crook. But they directed me to the Police Scotland advice page for online scams.”

Jacob added: “Stay safe out there and always check the sender to ensure that you are comfortable before sending cash to any random online sellers.

“There are often multiple ways of doing this like contacting Rangers ticket office on this instance or even searching Twitter to check for other profiles.”
