Jody Doherty-Cove 2022A digital chief at a regional publisher has been promoted to a new role overseeing special projects.

Newsquest’s digital optimisation editor Jody Doherty-Cove has announced he has moved to a new role as the group’s special projects editor.

Jody’s promotion comes after he was recently put in charge of presenting a new series of true crime documentaries on a video channel launched by Newsquest.

Mark Williams-Thomas, who joined the publisher as its group-wide investigations editor this week, is also involved along with digital news curator Jameel Miah.

Jody, pictured, posted on Twitter: “There are huge plans afoot for this project, which has been joined by the great Mark Williams-Thomas.

“As well as this, I’ll be improving and expanding internal projects, including a venture Newsquest journalists have been benefitting from this year

“The fruit of this project has reached 100,000s readers across the UK with much more planned for the near future.”

“I’m sad to be moving to kind of pastures new, but I’ll know they’ll continue to smash it as always.”

Jody, who previously worked as a reporter for Brighton daily The Argus, went on to praise his colleagues in Newsquest’s digital optimisation team – Charlotte Ikonen, David Jones and Kris Tatum.

Speaking to HTFP, Jody added: “Our true crime mini-documentary series, launched a couple of months ago, has been incredibly well-received by loyal readers & new audiences alike.

“We’re already bringing our local newsroom expertise and insight on some of the UK’s biggest crime cases to new, global audiences on YouTube and TikTok. This new role, along with the expertise of investigator Mark Williams-Thomas and skills of Jameel Miah, will take this to even greater heights.

“Along with this, I’ll also be focusing on internal projects, based on innovative new technology, which are already reaping rewards in Newsquest’s newsrooms up and down the county.

“I’m delighted Newsquest has given me the opportunity to expand and improve on these ventures – so watch this space.”
