Daily demands end to ‘blame game’ as club’s future hangs in balance

A regional daily has demanded an end to the “blame game” as part of its bid to save a stricken football club from extinction.

HTFP reported last week how the Derby Telegraph is campaigning to keep Derby County, who have been in administration for four months, alive.

The Rams are currently unable to name a preferred takeover bidder due to two other clubs, Middlesbrough and Wycome Wanderers, pursuing legal claims against them, citing a loss of income due to financial rule breaches.

Both Middlesbrough and Wanderers have stated they do not want to see Derby liquidated and are willing to find a solution, while the English Football League says it is “not in a position to make a determination as to the status of compensation claims”.

Derby Blame

The Telegraph splashed on its latest plea on Friday, pictured above.

In an accompanying editorial, Telegrpah football editor Steve Nicholson wrote: “There will be criticism of the EFL in this matter and there will be criticism of the administrators, but the arguments and counter-arguments that are dragging the issue through the mud from day to day have to stop.

“This is the future of a 138-year-old football club we are talking about, the heartbeat of the community. It means so much to so many people and affects the lives and livelihoods of so many.

“Both Middlesbrough and Wycombe have stated they do not want to see Derby County liquidated and are willing to meet with the administrators to find a solution.

“The EFL has said it is seeking to work proactively with all relevant parties to find appropriate and expeditious solutions that will ultimately see the club out of administration and thriving under new ownership. Derby’s administrators also want a successful conclusion to this situation.

“So, to all parties concerned, get yourselves in a room, or on zoom as it is these days, lock the door and don’t come out until a resolution is found because time is ticking and each passing day is another day of worry for the fans.”
