Publisher launches new district editions of sister dailies

Two more regional dailies have launched new district print editions to match recent expansions of their online sister titles.

Reach plc has launched a South Tyneside and Durham edition of Newcastle daily The Chronicle, as well as a Northumberland edition of The Journal.

The move comes after Reach last year launched new online brands in the North-East of England including County Durham Live, Northumberland Live and Sunderland Live.

The new editions were launched last Monday, the same day Reach also established a Wigan edition of the Manchester Evening News.

In a message to retailers, Reach North East head of circulation Pete Barnatt said: “This new edition is all about our commitment to your area.

“We’ll deliver the highest standards of journalism and live news coverage, from what’s happening on your doorstep to the big stories across the region.

“We have reporters on your patch now, ready to serve.

“For those retailers within these areas this is a great opportunity to provide your customers with a greater localised focus which in turn will enable you to sell more copies.”

An announcement about the launch of The Journal’s Northumberland edition on Reach’s In Your area site adds: “The Journal has long been regarded as Northumberland’s own daily paper and now you’ll be able to read more news, features and business stories from where you live.

“Also, look out for some great picture specials documenting life in the county and its stunning, world-renowned scenery.”
