Ex-regional digital boss unveiled as national title’s new editor

Steve AngleseyA regional publisher’s former digital chief has been unveiled as the new editor of a national newspaper.

The New European has announced Steve Anglesey will take the reins from Jasper Copping, who is leaving the role after three years.

Steve, pictured, has worked on The New European since its launch by Archant in 2016 and was among 14 investors involved in a management buyout of the pro-European Union weekly earlier this year.

He has previously held senior editorial roles at The Daily Mirror, Football 365, Local World and Archant, where he was digital content director before leaving the publisher last year.

Steve said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to lead a title that has never been more relevant or necessary than it is now.”

Matt Kelly, editor in chief and founder of The New European, added: “Steve’s experience and commitment to the New European, a newspaper he has been at the heart of since its beginnings, will make him a great editor.

“We are entering a phase of fresh investment in the title and have big ambitions for our future. Steve is the right person to lead that charge.”

“I’d like to thank Jasper for the unbending professionalism and commitment he has lent to The New European over five years, first as news editor, latterly as editor.

“We couldn’t have done it without him and I wish him all the luck in the world in his new job which I know will be announced soon.”

Steve’s appointment follows the recent appointments of John Kapmfner as European editor and Suna Erdem as associate editor.
