Award-winning daily journalist takes up football website editorship

Jonny McAn award-winning daily newspaper journalist has taken over the editorship of a regional publisher’s specialist football website.

Jonathan McFarlane, left, has been unveiled as the new editor of Reach plc’s Football Scotland site, following the departure of Gregor Kyle last month.

Jonny previously spent the past two years working for the Daily Record’s video desk, with a focus on sports video and podcasting.

Last week, he received the Outstanding Digital Journalist of the Year prize at the Scottish Press Awards for his work with the Glasgow-based newspaper before taking up his new post.

Jonny told HTFP: “I’m very much enjoying my new role at Football Scotland. We are a fan focused website looking to cover aspects of our game that make it special: the passion and the big talking points.

“All the writers here are fervent supporters first and foremost and I’m no different. This will always be reflected in our coverage as we try to bring something new and interesting to the Scottish football landscape every day.”

Gregor had served as the founding editor of Football Scotland, which went live in January, after leaving his post as editor of Reach’s Glasgow Live site to launch the project.

However, HTFP reported last month he had left the company to become a content editor at Frame, a Glasgow-based creative communications agency.

    “Gregor Kyle”

    What a wonderfully Scottish name.

My uncle did some family tree stuff a while back and found out our Scottish clan got kicked out of Scotland for ‘doing something unspeakable to the Murrays’.

Incredibly proud. That’s all I have to add other than good look to the wee man.
