Weekly goes yellow in honour of five-year-old with incurable tumour

A weekly newspaper turned its masthead yellow in honour of a five-year-old boy with an incurable brain tumour.

The Newark Advertiser has backed the fundraising efforts of Liam Andrew’s family, who are bidding to raise £500,000 for any treatments that might help him.

People in Newark are being urged to wear yellow, Liam’s favourite colour because of the ‘Minions’ characters from the Despicable Me films.

Liam’s family have thanked the Advertiser, which splashed on the appeal on Thursday, for its backing.

Newarky Yellow

His cousin Laura Fearnley said: “We are overwhelmed, amazed and surprised by just how much businesses and schools have got behind the wear yellow day. It is phenomenal. With the help of the Advertiser, the word has spread. Not just Newark, but the surrounding areas have gathered.

“The support is heart-warming. It keeps us going and keeps us positive through all of the brutal, horrible things we have to deal with and will continue to have to deal with.

“It is our positive and Liam is loving it. He feels like the local celebrity.”

Laura added: “Not a day goes by when we don’t appreciate it. I don’t think we would be where we are without the Advertiser.”
