Sister dailies lead print nominations for journalism awards

Two sister dailies lead the nominations for print titles at this year’s O2 Media Awards for Yorkshire and The Humber.

The Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post are up for a total of 12 prizes, with the former nominated for the Daily Newspaper award.

Three journalists working on the Leeds-based Johnston Press-owned titles – Georgina Morris, Ruby Kitchen and Chris Burn – are also nominated for the News Reporter Print prize.

A total of 25 different categories are up for grabs, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held at Leeds United Football Club’s Elland Road stadium, pictured, on 5 July.

Nicola Green, director of corporate affairs at O2, said: “The O2 Awards recognise media talent in all its forms.

these awards are all great but hardly reflective of the media landscape in the region – take out the BBC, Trtinity Mirror and JP what are you left with?

Its ironic that people want to pay homage to companies who are systematically devaluing the industry and replacing journalists with high volume social media driven stories.

Pretty sorry state of affairs if you ask me.

As a business owner I was interviewing once said to me

‘Can you fix it so we win an award, we need an award, happy to pay for it and the event’

Maybe if this industry looked a little harder it might actually find something to celebrate outside of the default for our part of the world.
