A regional daily has appointed a new country walks reporter to write about the subject.
Jonathan Smith, left, will provide a piece detailing a different walking route in The Press, York, every week.
Jonathan is a publisher author who wrote Dales 30, a book describing the highest mountains in the Yorkshire Dales.
He also offers training days and weekends where people learn to read maps and compasses, as well as organising guided tours and walking holidays.
Of his new role with The Press, Jonathan said: “There will be a different walk every week, with interesting facts about the area.
“The routes will vary, some weeks it might be ten or 11 miles, and some might be shorter at two to three miles in length.”
“There will be walks in the Dales as well as the North York Moors and Wolds.”
Is he being paid for his work?
Just asking…

“Appointed” does make it sound like a paid roll but I very much doubt it is…

I don’t think I have ever grumbled on here before but today I just can’t muster my usual restraint – seriously is the fact that a newspaper has taken on someone to write a weekly ramble really worthy of HTFP. Unless of course he is being paid a full time salary at the expense of a trained journalist. That would be a story.
I am relieved to know that the routes will at least vary. It would be very tedious for readers if they were all the same.

Maybe he was recruited in error after he actually wished to leave his previous job and said: ‘I’m going to walk.’

Extra sub-editing might be required, if it is a rambling column.
