Conference to debate future of women in sports journalism

Hayley McQueenNational journalists are set to discuss the future of women in sports media at a conference to be held next month.

The University of Northampton is holding its Changing Futures For Women In Sports Media conference, which is aimed at both current journalists and female students aged 16 to 18 who are interested in sports journalism.

Speakers include Sky Sports presenter Hayley McQueen, Sun footballer writer Vikki Orvice and BBC Final Score’s Robyn Cowen.

Vikki will be hosting a special writing masterclass for students, passing on her tips from her 22-year career as Sun staff footballer writer.

Broadcaster Lynsey Hooper and Women’s Super League journalist Kait Borsay will also speak, along with top female marketing staff from Northampton Saints rugby, Northampton Town Football Club and Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.

Hayley, pictured, said: “It is great to see the University of Northampton help bring together so many inspirational females from sports media and marketing. I am looking forward to meeting them and seeing the next generation that want to work in our careers.”

The conference will be held at the University of Northampton on Thursday 8 February, and anyone wishing to register can do so here.
