Friday Funnies: Football manager’s fury over daily’s festive foul-up

Football managers often fall out with their local newspaper over coverage of events on the pitch – but the above article about a hospital visit got Barrow AFC boss Ian Evatt’s goat on Saturday.

Barrow-based daily The Mail had covered a festive trip by his players, albeit with accompanying photographs showing National League rivals Wrexham’s squad on a similar visit.

Posting a picture of the error on Twitter, Mr Evatt said: “My players and staff had a fantastic visit to [Furness General Hospital] yesterday where we met some wonderful people and children, would be nice if [The Mail] could actually put a picture of my squad in the paper instead of Wrexham.”

While unhappy with the picture swap, Mr Evatt may be wishing the respective clubs could trade places in the league table. Wrexham currently sit fourth in the division, which is English football’s fifth tier, while Barrow are 12th.

He’s only got 6,000 followers on Twitter, which isn’t that far short of the paper’s circulation. Sure the suits won’t think see this for the total embarrassment which it is, but, hey, this is what happens when Newsquest axes subs.
