Ex-regional daily journalist to launch newspaper after magazine success

A magazine founded by a former regional daily journalist is set to become a newspaper with an increased publication frequency.

Jade Wright wrote the Liverpool Echo’s food and music pages for more than a decade, but launched quarterly magazine Good Taste, which initially covered Merseyside’s hospitality sector, last year.

Now Good Taste is set to launch a monthly newsprint sister title, which will have a bigger circulation than the magazine.

The first edition, a special dedicated to the festive season, will come out in the run-up to Christmas.

Good Taste

As well as Jade, several of Good Taste’s writers and photographers are also former Echo staff.

She said: “The North West’s food and drink scene is booming, and we want to celebrate that. We’ve done some extensive reader research over the last year, and from the feedback we received, it appeared our readers want more of the content we produce. They want it more regularly and we’re getting requests from further afield – what was originally Merseyside and Chester has quickly spread to Lancashire, Cheshire and into North Wales.

“We are broadening our lifestyle content to complement our food and drink focus and exploring wider commercial partnerships. There are some specials appearing, including this first one, a Christmas and New Year special, focused on the amazing hospitality offering coming out of the region.

“The aim of the new product is to make our content available in print to more people, while not compromising the scope and depth of what we do best. It also allows independent businesses to advertise with us in print at a more affordable rate.

“We will continue with the same team of journalists who eat, sleep and breathe food and drink, bringing you all the latest news, reviews and insight you need to be sure you experience the best the region has to offer, from restaurants and bars to cafes and independent food and drink producers too.”
