Daily prints 40,000 postcards as part of road improvement campaign

A regional daily has printed 40,000 postcards for readers to use in its bid to widen a major road through its patch.

The Eastern Daily Press is calling for longer stretches of the A47, which connects Norwich and Norfolk with Peterborough and the Midlands, to be made into dual carriageways as the government decides which road projects should get funding beyond 2020.

As part of the ‘Just Dual It!’ campaign, the EDP printed the freepost postcards in Friday’s edition for readers to fill out and send off to Westminster.

The campaign has also won the backing of Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

Dualled

EDP editor David Powles said: “We’ve had a brilliant response to the campaign so far and it seems to have struck a chord with people from one end of the road to the other.

“However, we really want something physical that we can take down to the government to highlight the strength of feeling.

“That is why it’s vital people just take a minute or two to fill in their postcards and pop them in the post.”

Martin Wilby, chairman of the A47 Alliance and chairman of Norfolk County Council’s environment, transport and development committee, added: “The campaign has got off to a fantastic start but vital to its success is being able to show the government there is overwhelming support for getting the A47 dualled.

“If we can take crates crammed full of completed postcards down to Westminster in the summer it will send such a powerful message that people are demanding something is done about this.”

Are the postcards available to pick up free from locations right along the A47 corridor?
or are folk expected to buy a copy of the EDP to get one?
Being a Norfolk County council initiative I assume they’re freely available all over the county?
