Daily marks two football triumphs separated by half a century

A regional daily marked two football triumphs which happened 50 years apart in the same edition.

The Manchester Evening News celebrated Manchester City’s Premier League title-winning side as they paraded their trophy through the city’s streets last night.

The parade was covered extensively online with more than 25,000 readers following the MEN’s live blog, which included a live video stream, and was followed by an eight-page pull-out in the paper today.

To complement this, the MEN also produced a 12-page pull-out, pictured, recalling City’s league win in 1968 under legendary manager Joe Mercer.

A 48-page stand-alone souvenir edition review of the season was also released today, as well as a giant souvenir poster.

All the work was produced and co-ordinated by assistant publishing editor Chris Ostick.

MEN editor in chief Darren Thwaites said: “It was great to see our teams come together with such energy across all departments to capitalise on City’s incredible season.

“The digital audience appetite was huge and we repackaged the best of everything into print to deliver a fantastic newspaper sales opportunity.”
