BBC local democracy reporter appointed editor of sister weeklies

Emily LloydA journalist employed under the BBC local democracy reporting scheme has been appointed editor of two sister weeklies.

Emily Lloyd has left the post of local democracy reporter for Shropshire to take up the editorship of Newsquest weeklies the Oswestry & Border Counties Advertizer and Whitchurch Herald.

Prior to taking up her most recent role, Emily worked at the Advertizer and Herald as head of news for five years.

She joined the papers’ former owner NWN Media, now Newsquest North Wales, as a reporter in August 2010.

Emily, pictured, replaces Colin Channon, who left the company last month to join Tindle Newspapers as editorial manager of its Surrey and Hampshire titles.

She said: “The Oswestry Advertizer and Whitchurch Herald are excellent newspapers and I believe they have an exciting future ahead of them.

“I am looking forward to leading the enthusiastic team who produce these titles to produce the best content for the communities they serve.”

Susan Perry, group editor for Newsquest North Wales, said: “I would like to welcome Emily to the editor’s role for both the Oswestry & Border Counties Advertizer and Whitchurch Herald.

“As an experienced journalist and a Shropshire person she is well placed to ensure both publications, in print and online, carry on the strong tradition of informing and serving their communities.”
