Regional daily celebrates football manager’s 500 days with special poster

A regional daily produced a special poster to mark 500 days since a football manager took over at its local club.

The Huddersfield Daily Examiner printed the poster of David Wagner, who manges Huddersfield Town, in yesterday’s edition.

Town, who play in English football’s second tier the Championship, currently sit third in the table and have hopes of being promoted to the Premier League.

The Examiner covered the 500 day milestone online with a piece on Wagner’s achievements by sports writer Rory Benson, and the poster was publicised on yesterday’s front page.

Editor Wayne Ankers said: “There is a lot more digital content we plan to publish over the coming days as the players are away on international duty or a well-earned break.

“But while discussing our digital plan we decided to do an image marking the main events during his tenure to celebrate the day, which we could send out on our Town Twitter and Facebook page.

“And, as it started to take shape, we said we should give a print version away to the fans and push it on the front page. What better way to celebrate than to give the fans something for free.

“The reaction has been good and we are hoping, coupled with a shooting in a barber’s shop, it will result in an uplift in sales.”

Isn’t it a shame that it becomes front page news when a football manager survives a year and a half in the job!

To me the push for the Premier League is the bigger story.
