A benefit gig to help exiled journalists and asylum seekers is being held by a National Union of Journalist branch.
The NUJ’s Manchester and Salford branch will host the concert this Saturday.
The branch is the hub for the NUJ’s Exiled Journalists Network, which supports journalists who have sought refuge in the UK.
The gig will be held at The Waldorf, on Gore Street, Manchester, from 7.30pm.
A release by the branch reads: “Manchester and Salford branch is the hub for the NUJ’s Exiled Journalists Network supporting journalists who’ve sought refuge in the UK because their lives have been put in peril while working in their home countries.
“Some of the union’s exiled members have been tortured and imprisoned. Some have been granted refugee status and need support.
“The NUJ also supports those who are still navigating the difficult legal process that anyone seeking asylum faces.”
Everyone’s probably thinking it so I’ll say it. Shame that great chocolate teapot of a union can’t throw a benefit gig to support all regional UK ex-journo-types now. Just sayin’. Hey-hum.
