Independent newspaper boss unveils plan to take title fortnightly

A monthly newspaper’s managing director has announced plans to take the title weekly or fortnightly next year.

Christopher Baker says he hopes the Bridlington Echo will make the frequency switch in 2018, following the independent paper’s launch last year.

The announcement comes after the Echo won Best Small Business at the Yorkshire Coast Business Awards, as reported by HTFP.

Judges praised the title, owned by print distribution company the BKR Group, for “impressive growth within a contracting market supported by revenue from local advertising”.

Said Christopher: “It was a big leap of faith to compete against an established paid for weekly in a small town, but the Echo has being going from strength to strength and we regularly receive fantastic feedback from readers as well as continued support from advertisers. ”

“There are over 40 outlets that now stock the Echo in and around the town, plus we have stockists further afield in Filey and Driffield.

“The Best Small Business Award is the icing on the cake for the Echo and we hope to progress to fortnightly or weekly publication in 2018.”
