Head of content steps up to take on regional daily editorship

GordonSutterA regional daily’s head of content has stepped up to the newspaper’s top job following the departure of its long-serving editor last week.

Gordon Sutter has been appointed editor of the Southern Daily Echo, in Southampton, after Ian Murray departed following 19 years in charge.

Gordon, left, has won the promotion having spent the last 20 years working as news editor and head of content, and has spent more than three decades in the regional press in total.

His appointment was revealed in an announcement to staff by Vincent Boni, managing director of Newsquest Hampshire, Dorset and Cornwall, which has been seen by HTFP.

It reads: “I am delighted to confirm that Gordon Sutter has been appointed editor and head of content for South Hampshire with immediate effect.

“This editorship takes in the Southern Daily Echo, Hampshire Chronicle and Romsey Advertiser and their related websites as well as a portfolio of free newspapers magazines and specials.”

Gordon began his career with the Buxton Advertiser, in Derbyshire, and then joined Aberdeen-based daily the Press & Journal.

He later moved to the south coast to work for the Bournemouth Echo before moving to Southampton two decades ago.

Good move. Gordon is a talented, hard-working journalist and one who is pleasant to deal with. I wish him well in an extremely difficult role.
