Regional publisher wins contracts to print 30 weekly newspapers

DC ThomsonA regional publisher has won contracts to print 30 weekly newspapers on its presses.

DC Thomson has announced that its contract printing arm, Discovery Print, has taken on two new contracts with Johnston Press and Wyvex Media.

It means the company’s production facility in Dundee will now print a newspaper from every region of Scotland.

The JP contract covers 26 of its titles in Scotland, while the Wyvex Media deal covers the Argyllshire Advertiser, Arran Banner, Cambpeltown Courier and Oban Times.

Guy Forester, DC Thomson’s head of operations, said: “I’m delighted that Discovery Print has secured two weekly Scottish portfolios.

“The production facility in Dundee is the most recent newspaper press installation in the UK with state of the art printing and finishing capabilities.

“We are keen to grow our contract print portfolio and with added value offerings such as stitch & trim, insertion and variable data digital printing, we are in a strong position to do so.”

The company has also been shortlisted for three awards at the Production Journal awards, which take place on Wednesday 27 April.

Good for them, when newspaper sales are in free fall, advertising revenues are at all time lows, costs on the publishing dude continuing to rise and people no longer see a local newspaper as an essential purchase its diversification and establishing other revenue streams that can make a difference to a company’s financial viability and future well being.

    That’s a long sentence isn’t it, Shrimper.

Additionally, judging by the standard of your grammar and punctuation, I can see why you don’t value newspapers.

Correct me if I’m wrong, voice of reason, UK, (and I know you will), but shouldn’t the first sentence in your post have a question mark at the end of it?

Shrimper. JP news?papers’ circulations are in free fall due to the unbelievably daft decisions the management has made of late, too numerous to collate here. Still, the company keeps HTFT supplied with copy, thanks to its five-star folly!!
