Regional daily charts striker’s 30-year club association in new book

wolves-bullA book charting a footballer’s 30-year association with the same club has been co-produced by a regional daily.

The Express & Star, Wolverhampton, joined forces with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC to compile the tribute to striker Steve Bull, who joined the side in 1986.

The book was written by the Express & Star’s Wanderers correspondent Tim Spiers, along with the club’s media relations manager Paul Berry.

Bull, known as ‘Bully’, left Wanderers in 1999 but has maintained a close association with the club and its supporters since.

Express & Star sports editor Russell Youll said: “Bully’s incredible career is one of the most famous sporting stories ever to emanate from the Black Country.

“In the space of just a few years he went from working in a builders’ yard in Tipton to playing in a World Cup for England.

“And his goalscoring exploits for Wolves are the stuff of legend. To bag 306 goals in total, score 100 in two seasons, be Wolves’ top scorer for eight years in a row and notch 18 hat-tricks along the way is quite remarkable.

“Bully is a great ambassador for the club and the city and we’re proud to have been so heavily involved in the creation of this book.”
