Weekly bids to help flood victims hundreds of miles from patch

An appeal to help flood victims hundreds of miles from a weekly freesheet’s patch has been launched by the newspaper.

Your Local Paper, based in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, is urging readers to send Christmas toys to children in Cumbria affected by the recent storms.

The campaign, run in conjunctions with West Norfolk radio station KLFM, was revealed on Friday’s front page, pictured below.

On the same day, KLFM delivered its first batch of toys to the North-West, where donations were split between appeals by CN Group-owned radio stations Lakeland Radio and The Bay, Lancaster.

YLP flood

YLP editor Donna Semmes said: “There can be nothing worse than the flooding and devastation caused in the Lakes at this time of year.

“West Norfolk has recently come close to being in a similar situation and we felt compelled to do something. We can’t make it all better, but at least we can show that our community is thinking of them.”

A second batch of donations is due to undertake the journey of around 200 miles from King’s Lynn to the North-West on Monday.

Phil Rodgers, of Lakeland Radio, said: “We’ve been really touched that the community in West Norfolk wants to help out. We’ll make sure that the toys all go to good homes.”

Well done YLP. Local newspaper, locally owned, locally run – and it shows. It’s how it used to be.

Nice one YLP showing how a true community newspaper should be operated with the community at its heart and not just grabbing the business people’s advertising cash or fawning over the people of west Norfolk to sell papers and ads like the ice skaters down the A47.
Isn’t it good to hear that this is being done to help a community miles away who have no associations with the area making it a true cause not just an excerise in ingratiating themselves.
    Proper weekly properly run

Nice one YLP and good to see a genuine campaign to help a community who are miles away from west Norfolk and one that’s not just a publicity seeking sales drive to sell papers ( mentioning no names)

And Well done to Donna too who’s showing ‘the big boys’ how it should be done without trying to take all the glory for herself in front of the cameras.
    Long may you flourish
