Licences awarded to run three new local TV stations

Three local TV licences have been awarded to the same company by broadcast regulator Ofcom.

STV’s applications for licences to run TV channels in Aberdeen, Ayr and Dundee have been successful.

The new channels will be called Around Aberdeen, Ayrshire Today and View from the Bridges.

A total of 16 local TV services are currently on air across the country, with a total of 33 licences awarded by Ofcom.

A statement by the regulator reads: “Ofcom has also agreed licence variations for STV Edinburgh and STV Glasgow.

“The licence variation will allow these channels to reduce the hours of repeats of local TV programmes shown during peak hours from seven hours of repeats to none.

“Ofcom agreed this change because it will not be a departure from the character of service.

“The hours of first run local programming, overall hours of repeats of local programming and scheduling of local news and current affairs programming required under STV’s licences will remain the same.”

It’s all Toy Town TV. I recall the fiasco when the Manchester Evening News launched the spectacularly inept MTV in the 1990s. It amounted to nothing more than pouring endless sums of money down a bottomless hole. The MEN never recovered.

Half of them still are not on air…my local one hasn’t even got a start date announced. But having seen Mustard in East Anglia, I fear the worst!

If you are thinking of applying for one if the licences in your area just look at Archants god awful offering: Mustard TV
Someone’s vanity project gone horribly wrong with cringeingly bad presenters, dire green screen sets and ‘wow isn’t it exciting and great !’ Content but luckily almost no viewers to witness this car crash output.
If they had any sense they’d cut their losses and pull the plug now.
    Beyond embarsssing
