Press photographers to take to road for charity

Two press photographers from the same Midlands town are setting off on separate cycling feats for charity.

Jim Jarvis, a staff photographer at the Nuneaton News, is aiming to ride from London to Brussels to raise cash for Mary Ann Evans Hospice.

Meanwhile freelance photographer Ted Cottrell, who used to work for the News, is riding from London to Paris for the U Foundation, which helps support education projects in Zambia.

Ted, who has been working as a photographer for more than 50 years, will take to the road on Tuesday 24 June and aims to raise £1,200 from the 300-mile ride.

He said:  “I’ve done five rides like this one before. But I had to miss it last year.

“I’ll be riding to Paris to raise money for the U Foundation, I do a lot of work with the foundation and take photos for them.”

Added Jim: “It seems strange than me and Ted have followed the same path and have been press photographers and also take part in cycle rides for charity.

“We have both worked for local newspapers for more than 30 years.”

Jim has raised more than £3,500 for the Nuneaton hospice but hopes to reach his target of £4,000 before he sets of in August.

You can donate at Jim’s JustGiving page and at the U Foundation’s fundraising page.

Good luck both of you. I hope all goes well. As far as I am aware Ted never worked for the Nuneaton News but was with a forerunner, the Nuneaton Tribune when it was a daily. I was one of his colleagues in the early 1970s.
I’ll think of you when I’m pushing round the pedals…on somewhat shorter journeys.
