Nigerian community newspaper goes fortnightly

A free newspaper aimed at the UK’s Nigerian community has moved from being a monthly to a fortnightly publication.

Nigerian Watch, which was launched in May 2012, aims to connect news about what is happening in the West African country with that of expat Nigerians.

The new fortnightly 24-page edition, which will relaunch from 31 January, will include news, business, sport and politics as well as an updated lifestyle and entertainments section.

Nigerian Watch managing director Maryanne Jemide said: “With 2014 a landmark year for Nigeria – our nation celebrates its centenary; Super Eagles play at the World Cup in Brazil, Team Nigeria participate at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow; and the 2015 Presidential Election gains pace – this is the most opportune time to increase frequency.

“Our readers have been so positive about our newspaper and the abundance of content this year means that we can now give them more of what they love.

Nigerian Watch launched with a monthly print-run of 20,000 copies consisting of 48 pages, which increased to 50,000 copies a few months later.”
