New ad manager for Midlands newspaper group

A former advertising director with Trinity Mirror is to join a rival publisher in a newly-created role.

Jeff Lawrenson has been appointed national advertisement manager for the Midland News Association, publisher of the Express & Star and Shropshire Star.

The move comes after Jeff, pictured, left his previous role of advertising director for Trinity Mirror Solutions’ Manchester team earlier this month.

He said: “I am very pleased to be joining the MNA, which continues to engage with large local audiences in print and online across the West Midlands and Shropshire.

“I am excited to be given the opportunity of attracting national advertising for MNA’s award winning portfolio.”

MNA advertising director Louise Burns added: “Jeff’s appointment to this newly created role will give us the focus and experience we require to maximise our national revenues. Our newspapers and websites continue to deliver a positive response for leading brands so it is great to have Jeff on the team to lead the way.”

Who teaches them this company-speak garbage?

    Merry Christmas anyway!

When will the Graham family wake up and smell the coffee? Nothing personal against the latest recruit brought in from outside, but isn’t this the same company that has over recent years made many loyal people, many in advertising, who have given their careers to the MNA redundant? The same company that now has TWO managing director’s and a new CEO overseeing a depleted number of disillusioned employee’s awaiting either the axe to fall or at the very least the next ‘cull’. So sad to see what was once a great name in the publishing industry, now run into the ground. Bets are on to see which weekly title closes in 2015 or how many months the Shropshire Star will be kept alive. Nice to see that all the out of touch fat cats at the top are sitting safely, and as smug as ever.

Well said ‘Enough is Enough’, sentiments echoed by those of us still working for this organisation. Those at the top are totally ‘out of touch’ and those who made a difference have now sadly gone. The Real Awards and the weekly garbage churned out on the Intranet cannot disguise the fact the company is doomed! The only part of the company which has a future … The MNA Golf society!
I haven’t seen the latest figure below on the Intranet…
    Shropshire Star
    36,756
    -14.7%

Never worked in such a place! The company is run on’fear’. This is the company that just weeks after making colleagues redundant, have a lavish celebration for their 50th anniversary! One thing for sure they will never see another landmark birthday!

Jeff is a good operator – but can’t see this as a positive move for him – maybe it’s his last before he follows other talented people out of the business.
