How the Scottish dailies marked referendum day

Yesterday’s referendum on Scottish independence produced some eye-catching front pages from Scotland’s daily titles.

With referendum day ‘purdah’ in force north of the border, none of the country’s daily newspapers published opinion-led splashes, although both The Scotsman and The Herald have alerady declared in favour of keeping the Union.

Instead they along with the Press and Journal, Edinburgh Evening News, Aberdeen Evening Express, Glasgow Evening Times and Dundee Courier all produced “neutral” front pages to mark their country’s date with destiny.

Here’s our round up of how each of them marked referendum day, together with a montage of how the English national dailies covered the event.

Scotsman and Edinburgh Evening News have terrible front pages. A historic day, and that’s all they could come up with!!!
