A knowledge of Sanskrit is of little use to a rat trapped in a sewer, according to an old proverb.
However a knowledge of Latin may be of some use to readers of York daily The Press, if this recent editorial column is anything to go by.

juvat impigros deus, as they say in Huddersfield where I did my school Latin (town motto – implied; God favours the diligent, now gerr’on wi’ it ). My school friend is starting teaching Latin this year in high school, so still relevant
