Scottish daily to close office in capital city

A leading daily newspaper in Scotland is to close its office in the country’s capital city, it has emerged.

The Herald & Times Group, which publishes the Glasgow-based Herald as well as the Sunday Herald and Evening Times, has confirmed that its Edinburgh office will close within weeks.

Most of the dozen members of staff currently based in the city – which includes investigations editor Paul Hutcheon – will work from home.

Group managing editor Tom Thomson said there would be no job losses as a result of the change, and said bosses were working to find ‘alternative locations’ for anyone unable to work from home.

A spokesman said the decision was made following a review of the group’s property needs.

He added: “The Herald & Times Group… is shortly to close its Edinburgh office but will maintain its dozen editorial staff in the capital.

“Our commitment to providing quality news and analysis for print and digital customers from Edinburgh remains unchanged.”
