Journalists join forces to launch online history magazine

Two former journalists at a Scottish daily newspaper have joined forces again to launch an online magazine promoting an association for history writers.

Robert Low, pictured right, and Martin Kielty, left, who worked together at the Daily Record during the early 1990s, recently unveiled Galleria – the Historical Writers’ Association’s online magazine.

The pair were both involved in the launch of the Daily Record’s website in 1995 before Robert became an author of historical fiction and Martin began writing about rock music in books and magazines.

Robert says he is pleased to be back working in journalism again after helping pioneer the online content of newspapers when working for the Scottish title.

“I can’t think of a better person to work with than Martin, who frequently saved me from the worst excesses of myself,” he said.

“It is equally good to be working in conjunction with the Historical Writers’ Association, an organisation I helped found and which now contains upwards of 100 of the best published names in historical writing as well as hundreds more who one day will be.”

Robert has been appointed editor of the new website and Martin as its designer.

Martin, who worked under Robert when he started at the Daily Record, added: “Time and time again I’ve returned to the deep-end education I received at the Record back in those days.

“It’s fun to be working again as a wee team, the way we started out, although it remains challenging. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
