A regional daily newspaper has marked the start of the academic year with a special supplement for new school starters.
The North Wales Daily Post, which also marked its 50,000th edition this week as reported by HoldtheFrontPage, printed a picture-based pull out covering four and five-year-old children in their first week at school.
The eight-page supplement covered schoolchildren across the region wearing their uniforms for the first time and the pictures were also featured in an online gallery.
Daily Post editor Alison Gow said: “Everyone takes a picture of their child when they first start at school so we asked parents to tweet, facebook or email us with a photo and we were absolutely inundated.
“We also had several schools send us us class photos – there were a lot of smiling children, some looking a little nervous but there are some lovely pictures and all the children look very cute.
“It was the first time we have done it and although it was a bit of a sales drive, we did it mainly to be a part of our readers’ lives.”
Bit slow on the up-take the Daily Post are. Regional papers have been doing this sort of thing for years. Not just school starters, high-school proms and primary school nativiy plays are amongst the favourites too. Purely sales driven of course – a copy for gran and grandad, auntie Jean, uncle Tim, etc etc…
