The Romford Recorder raised a laugh with this headline about a funeral procession disrupted by a house fire earlier this month.
Former local councillor Alby Tebbutt was on his way to say his final farewells to an old friend when he received a call on his mobile to say his garage was on fire.
Fire investigators later discovered the blaze had been caused by a squirrel chewing through electrical cables, inspiring the Recorder’s headline.
Entertainment writer Michael Moran nominated it on Twitter as the best headline of the year so far, with several other journalists tweeting their agreement.
Surely “mourners driven nuts after house fire sparked by red-faced squirrel halts funeral procession” would have been better.

OJ, for print, maybe, but you’re not thinking SEO (as you can see, it’s an online article)

Red-faced squirrel? Hmmm…. maybe not.

The print headline was: “Ex-councillor takes aim at bushy-tailed arsonist”

This bit of “horsing” around with a headline from the Falmouth Packet earlier this month has surely got to be a contender?
“Police ‘looking for a horse’ after hay and carrot thefts”

As per usual with headlines involving question marks, the answer is ‘no’.
