Regional newspaper office hit by three-hour power cut

Journalists at the Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times were hit by a three-hour power cut this morning.

Phone lines, e-mail and the internet at the Archant-owned titles were down for three hours before a temporary generator was put in place.

A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks told website EADT24 that engineers were working to restore the electricity supply to two customers in Lower Brook Street, Ipswich.

She said: “Power was interrupted at about 10am today due to a fault on a low voltage underground cable. We would like to reassure our customers we are working as quickly as is safely possible to return their supplies to normal.”

In years gone by, an event like this would have seen the entire news team head for the nearest pub as a temporary office. Fat chance these days I expect!
