A North-West regional daily scored its highest sales figures for more than a year after the Olympic torch relay passed through its patch.
Sales of the News and Star, Carlisle, were up 21pc at 18,126 on 21 June against a figure of 14,947 the previous week.
The CN Group title published an extra edition together with editionised wrap round front and back pages featuring the event.
Circulation and marketing director Damian Woolfe said: “It was such an exciting event for Carlisle, with people travelling miles to see the torch pass through.
“Our excellent coverage and editionalised wraps provided the sales and promotional opportunities that resulted in our best figures in over a year. It was a great team effort by all departments.”
I imagine he means ‘best figures in more than a year’.
And there’s a great excuse for redundancies next July when sales fall through the floor.
