New editor appointed for Midlands magazines

Regional publisher Archant has appointed a new group editor for its Midlands portfolio of magazines.

Joanne Goodwin, left, has been chosen to lead Archant Life titles the Herefordshire and Wye Valley Life, Warwickshire Life, Worcestershire Life and Shropshire Life.

She joined the regional publisher in 2006 from Staffordshire Sentinel Newspapers.

The group editor role is a new one with Joanne having previously been editor of Worcestershire Life and Herefordshire and Wye Valley Life.

Jane Haynes, who was Shropshire Life editor, becomes assistant editor across the Midlands titles while Tony Lennox has retired as editor of Warwickshire Life.

Said Joanne: “Archant Life’s four Midlands titles offer unique coverage of the region for both readers and advertisers.

“Our aim is to produce county magazines which have discrete editorial content yet give advertisers an unprecedented opportunity to attract an audience either in one county, or across the portfolio which stretches across Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, the Wye Valley, Powys and Monmouthshire.

“We have a great editorial team, backed up by first class contributors, and I am delighted to be working for titles which thrive on positive, good news.”

Archant it now thought to be the largest publisher of county and city magazines in the UK, publishing 53 titles which cover most of the country.

As someone who worked alongside Joanne during the heyday of The Sentinel it is comforting to see there’s still a place for highly talented journalists somewhere in publishing. Sadly, along with many colleagues still under the Northcliffe yoke, the chances of finding mine look slimmer by the hour. Good luck Joanne!
