Editor met with man over ‘pervert’ complaint

A complaint to the Press Complaints Commission by a man referred to as a ‘pervert’ in a newspaper story was resolved by the editor agreeing to meet with him.

The man has complained about a report in the Croydon Advertiser that he had avoided a prison sentence despite having 4,000 indecent images on his computer.

He had been described as a ‘pervert’ who had ‘downloaded a sickening haul of thousands of child sex pictures’. He explained that none of the images had been retained on his computer.

He also complained about his photograph being taken outside the court despite having asked the photographer to desist.

The matter was resolved when the Advertiser’s editor, Glenn Ebrey, met and discussed the man’s concerns with him.

Sorry but why did this editor ‘meet with’ this man. Could he not simply meet him?

Er…more to the point, what is wrong with taking pictures of a convicted person leaving court (whether or not they asked the snapper to desist?)
